A walking tour through Ellison’s Gully, Mitcham, will provide little-known insights into the settlement of the valley and ends at the historic Mitcham Water Works. Hear about outcomes of recent archaeological studies and plans for the reconstruction of the water works. Wear strong shoes and bring water (distance approx. 3km).
Walk along beautiful Ellison’s Creek and the cast-iron Scottish pipeline, past 19th century mines and over Wylie’s stone bridge to the Mitcham Water Works, commissioned in 1879. Track will be muddy in wet weather. Involves creek crossing.
