Qld: Archaeology Week at Toowong Cemetery

Event Details

Toowong Cemetery in partnership with The University of Queensland and Friends of Toowong Cemetery run yearly excavations as part of National Archaeology Week, from 24-26 May. These excavations are designed to recover buried headstones from the North Brisbane Burial Grounds (1843-1875), which is now home to Suncorp Stadium.

On Saturday 26 May, families and all residents are encouraged to attend from 9am to be a part of the dig and perhaps make a fascinating discovery.

Juice Power will be on site to provide families with juice, smoothies, coffee and protein bars to keep you going and if you can’t make it along that morning, come along later that afternoon for food truck or two and an outdoor screening of the classic movie ‘The Goonies’ at Cannon Garland Place, within Toowong Cemetery.

Remember to bring along your picnic rugs, blankets and camper chairs.

When:  Saturday 26 May 2018, 9am to 8pm

Where: Toowong Cemetery, enter via the Richer Street entrance and follow the signs inside to find the excavation site on 8th Avenue Portion 15.
