Explore the stories behind these buildings with displays, historic images and videos, including the heritage repair works carried out over the past 18 months, and of the specialist trades. Some artefacts that were discovered during the recent archaeological investigations at Parramatta North will be on display.
Tour the grounds of the former Parramatta Female Factory and Lunatic Asylum, Norma Parker Centre (former Parramatta Industrial School for Girls) and Parramatta Gaol, and peek inside some of the heritage buildings not normally open to the public. Dr Mary Casey of Casey & Lowe, Historical Archaeologist will provide a talk on the recent historical archaeological excavations at the site. Jillian Comber of Comber Consultants will provide a talk on the recent Aboriginal archaeological excavations undertaken across the site and a demonstration on how stone tools were made.
There will be activities for children, and places to picnic and enjoy the grounds. Snacks and drinks will be available to purchase, so why not make it a family day.
