NSW: Community Collaborations – Public outcomes for Aboriginal archaeology

Event Details

Diana Cowie and Jane McMahon (GML Heritage)

The archaeology of Aboriginal Australia, in the context of consulting, provides unique challenges in engaging with, and providing meaningful outcomes to the local community. Within the current NSW legislative framework for investigating and recording Aboriginal heritage, the requirement to consult with Aboriginal communities is clear; but the process of turning the knowledge archaeologists gain into stories communicated can be murky.

With creative solutions and collaboration with public and private partners, GML Heritage has worked to overcome some of these challenges, finding positive results for the communities we work with.
