Lecture: The Dynasty That Didn’t Speak Egyptian: Encountering the Ptolemies

Event Details

The Ancient Egypt Society of W.A. Inc, now celebrating its 20th year, hosts lectures on the first Wednesday of each month (Feb-Dec) and other social and educational events. www.aeswa.org.au https://www.facebook.com/ancientegyptsocietyofwa/

Our next lecture will be Wednesday, May 4: our presenter, Dr. Bill Leadbetter, will be entertaining us with ‘The Dynasty That Didn’t Speak Egyptian: Encountering the Ptolemies.’ Brilliant and decadent in equal measure, the Ptolemaic rulers sponsored some of Egypt’s greatest achievements, such as the library of Alexandria and the temples of Edfu and Philae. But they were also responsible for some of the most violent and scandalous power struggles of antiquity. Historian and scholar Dr. Bill Leadbetter will bring these fascinating rulers and their era to life, and reveal how the interaction of Greek and Egyptian ideas produced a vigorous new culture. 7-9PM Wednesday May 4, 2016 Engineers Australia Auditorium 712 Murray St West Perth Admission: Members $4, Non-members $7
