WA: Cottesloe to Cockburn: A Voyage Through the Maritime Archaeology of Old Fremantle Port

Event Details

Dr Michael (Mack) McCarthy

Curator, Maritime Archaeology, WA Museum

This lecture will uncover some of the hidden maritime archaeological history of Fremantle and its coastal environs: from the old port of Fremantle and other historic landmarks to stories of shipwrecks, ship breaker yards and anchorages that are evidence of Fremantle’s hidden maritime past.

Join us for a Batavia Lecture celebrating National Archaeology Week as Mack McCarthy reveals these Fremantle perspectives on maritime archaeology. The lecture will give an overview of local shipwrecks including the mysterious Elizabeth at Cottesloe, the Marquis of Anglesea (which when wrecked became one of Perth’s first buildings), and the Omeo at Coogee Beach.

Cost: $12 per person. Includes light refreshments after the lecture.

Bookings: Essential online or call 1300 134 081. Please RSVP by 5.00pm, Wednesday 20 May.
