National Archaeology Week aims to increase public awareness of Australian archaeology and the work of Australian archaeologists both at home and abroad, and to promote the importance of protecting Australia's unique archaeological heritage. Held from the 15th to the 21th of May 2011, this exciting nationwide program of events and activities will include public lectures, seminars, exhibits, demonstration excavations and displays. The Etruscans: A Classical Fantasy
In popular imagination the Etruscans are the very stuff of fantasy, myth and legend. Who are they, where did they come from, what does their language mean? In reality, although wiped out or assimilated by Rome, they have left us an extraordinarily rich heritage of art, jewellery, metal working, terracotta sculpture, urban planning, walls, roads. Indeed, in the 6th century BC, the Etruscans were the most powerful people in the Mediterranean. So what went wrong? The exhibition opens 6 May 2011 and runs until January 2012....
